Matthew Langen Archer Latin IV AP Caesars Gallic Wars 4.

34 Because of these things, with our men having been perturbed by the newness of fighting, Caesar at the most opportune time brought assistance: for the enemy paused with the arrival of this man, and our men regained themselves from fear. With this having been done, having judged that the time was inappropriate for the purpose of provoking and engaging battle, he secured himself in his own place and with a short period of time having intervened, he led back the legions into the camp. While these things were being carried out, with all our men having been occupied, the rest who were in the fields, departed. Storms followed for several continuous days, which held our men in the camp and prohibited the enemy from fighting. Meanwhile the barbarians sent away messengers in all directions and proclaimed to their own people the scarcity of our soldiers and showed how great an opportunity of making spoils and also of freeing themselves forever was being given, if they had expulsed the Romans from their camp. Because of these things, having quickly collected a multitude of foot soldiers and cavalry, they came to the camp.
