Inquiry 3: Community- we share space with humans and nature

About the unit:
This inquiry will look into the relationship between communities, environment, and natural resources. We will look at how we share this responsibility with others and with other living things. Please join us on March 22nd to see our key assignment!

Interdisciplinary Connections: Essential Questions:

How can we be good citizens in our community? What are our roles and responsibilities in our community? Why do we need leaders in our community? How are living things similar and different? How can we use math to describe the things in our environment? Social Studies: We are citizens in our community with different rights, roles, and responsibilities. Science: There are many different kinds of plants and animals that have similarities and differences. We need to take care of our environment. Math: Plants and animals have measurable qualities.

ESLR Connections:
We will show sensitivity towards others while we explore the idea that we share our communities with different kinds of people and living things. We will be compassionate towards other living things on our planet by raising environmental awareness. We will show courage by standing up for plants and animals in our surroundings that cant speak for themselves. We will show intelligence by finding new and innovative ways to raise awareness about the world around us. We will show concern for the continued vitality of the living things that share our planet.

Help at Home:
Read stories about plants and animals. Encourage your child to do research on their own about their favorite animal. Talk about what it means to be a good citizen. What roles and responsibilities does your child have at home? At school? Look at different ways of protecting the environment around you.
