The Adventures
Okay, so it's a bit of a mess-but what a glorious mess! The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzaiis a junk-food feast House of Dark Shadows (1970) of satirical sci-f!, a day-after-Halloween candy-bag of The Fan (1996) fun. With visual and dialog allusions to everything from old war movies and Our Gang comedies to modern Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country ( I 99 1) trailer-park culture and neo-garage bands, Buckaroo is a wild ride indeed. Peter Weller plays a latter-day Doc The Adventures of Buckaroo Savage, the titu la r neu rosu rgeon-physicist-rock-si ngerBanzai Across the Eighth Dimension (1984) troubleshooter who gathers a team of the world's finest individuals to help defend Earth against third-rate alien infiltraters. And what a team it is, with such stalwarts as The 1997 VHl Fashion Rawhide (Clancy Brown), Perfect Tommy (Lewis Smith), Awards Reno Nevada (Pepe Serna), and of course, New Jersey (Jeff Goldblum). With John Lithgow as The Bad Guy, The X-Files: "F. Emasculata" Ellen Barkin as The Girl, and Christopher Lloyd, Dan Hedaya and Vincent Schiavelli as The Trashy Aliens, Buckaroo's slight story of intergalactic industrial espionage gets buried under the weight of absurdity, personality, mystic philosophy and rules for being a good citizen. Not for everyone, this disjointed delight leaves behind plot holes, unanswered questions, and a warm feeling.that somehow, out there, Buckaroo Banzai's Blue Blaze lrregulars are here to help us all.
