Vocal Workshop with Lib Porter & Joy Evans

Well-known vocalist and auto harpist, Lib Porter, has been a musician since she was a pre-schooler. Her dad, a coroner in Pickens County, traveled locally and regionally with his wife and children, the Singing Rampeys, entertaining at churches, singings, revivals, and tent meetings during the 1930s, 40s and 50s . Lib also plays the piano and organ. Several years ago Lib formed a group called The Hagood Harpists. The group features Joy Evans on dulcimer and ddle, Dan and Norma Hendricks on guitar and upright bass, Lillie Rogers on ddle, and Andrew Lathe on dobro. They draw from a variety of inuences, including gospel, spirituals, old-time country, bluegrass and blues. She particularly enjoyed taping a folklore CD with Joy Evans for the McKissick Museum. Lib has also taught folk singing at TAM YAM Camp. During the workshop Lib is looking forward to helping people learn how to vocalize who may not have had the opportunity before. Joy Evans is an extremely talented and enthusiastic vocalist. In addition she plays bluegrass, old-time, and Native American tunes on her mountain dulcimer and ddle. She has played at many places locally and regionally such as Fletcher Feed and Seed and the Childrens Museum in Greenville. For several years Joy has been teaching ddle in the After-school YAM program and singing at TAM YAM Camp. Shes most looking forward to Harmony Singing during the vocals workshop. Lib and Joy have been entertaining together with Heart Strings for over two years. They will be leading the vocal workshop from 2:00 to 3:00 in Room 5.
