To generate random alerts without a sensor into the IntruShield Manager: 1.

Stop the NSP manager service (right-click the Task Bar icon and select Stop manager). 2. Edit the file C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\Network Security Manager\App\config\ems.properties by these steps. 3. Right-click the ems.properties file and select Open, Select the program from a list, OK, Notepad, OK. 4. Un-remark the Raw Alert Channel section: ## # Raw Alert Channel port iv.core.rawalert.port=8554 ## 5. Close and save the file. 6. Restart the Manager service (right-click the NSP Task Bar icon and select Start Manager). 7. Open the C:\Program Files (x86)\McAfee\Network Security Manager\App\diag\AlertGen\NewAlertGen.bat file to invoke the New Alert Generator utility. 8. In the Send Options section, select either Burst, to send all alerts at once, or Rate, to control the send rate. Recommend that you select options such as: Rate, Send 20 alerts every 60 seconds 9. In the Attack ID field, select random for random alerts, or select a designated alert from the drop-down list. 10. Optional: type the IP address and port information. Recommend that you put in an IP address for better event results. 11. In the Total Number of Alerts field, type the desired number. Recommend that you use a large number such as 3000 12. Select Send Alert.
