Unquestionably, managerial and confidential state employees provide valuable services to the state.

The overall salary structure for employees and public officers warrants a review and analysis to make it more fair to all State workers. This should be done within the context of the State budget.

Your actions will speak louder than your words, Governor.

Fairness starts with keeping your word.

New Yorkers have come to rely upon a small group of public employees who provide seamless essential services in every corner of the state. They are responsible for maintaining the soundness of our roads and bridges and protecting the dignity and welfare of our most vulnerable populations. However, in recent years, their ranks have dwindled, and the politically favored have taken their place. In fact, when the state Legislature voted overwhelmingly to ensure that these qualified management/confidential (M/C) employees less than 6 percent of the state workforce are treated fairly, Governor Cuomo vetoed the proposal. And, while praising the value and role of the M/Cs, he maintained that actions of this type should be done within the context of the State budget. Next week, when Governor Cuomo unveils his proposed 2014-15 budget, well see if he is true to his word and is fair to the states management/confidential employees.
