Director, YMCA Institute of Engineering, payable at Faridabad latest by 3.8.2007.
Requests received after this will not be entertained. The Institute does not take the

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. The Application Form for admission is given at the end of the Prospectus.

2. The duly completed Application Form alongwith all required enclosures should
reach Director, YMCA Institute of Engineering, Sector-6, Faridabad by prescribed
date.

3. A candidate who furnishes particulars which are found to be false or suppresses


material information, will not be considered for admission and if he/ she is
admitted on such information, legal action under the law of the land, his/ her
admission shall be cancelled and all fees deposited by him/ her would stand
forfeited.

4. Before accepting the admission, the candidate must also ensure that he/ she
fulfills the minimum eligibility conditions.

5. No separate call letters will be issued.

6. All the admitted candidates will be governed by the Academic Regulation and/ or
Ordinance as laid down by the affiliating University.

7. In the event of any inconsistencies in the rules or any clarification thereof, the
matter shall be referred to the competent authority for interpretation whose
decision shall be final.

1. THE INSTITUTE

The YMCA Institute of Engineering, Faridabad was established in the year 1969
as a joint venture of Govt. of India, Govt. of Haryana and National Council of YMCAs of
India with active assistance from Overseas Agencies of West Germany to produce highly
practical oriented personnel in specialized fields of engineering to meet specific technical
manpower requirement of industries. The Institute has been well known for its track
record of employment of the passed out students since its inception. The Institute has
been conducting B.Tech. Degree Courses of 4 years duration from the session 1997-98
and candidates are admitted through Centralized Counselling. The following Under
Graduate Degree Courses, apart from the Post Graduate Degree Courses, are being run in
the Institute with an intake as mentioned against each discipline. In addition to these
courses, the Institute is also running MCA Course with an intake of 30.

The Institute is situated right on the National Highway No.2, known as Mathura
Road, 32 Kms from the Nation’s Capital, New Delhi on way to the Taj Mahal, Agra. The
Institute has its own campus on a plot area of 20 acres. It is located in the growing and
sprawling Faridabad- Ballabgarh Industrial Complex of Haryana. The Institute is well
connected with Rail and Road transport from Delhi/ New Delhi. The Institute is managed
by Board of Governors, constituted by State Govt. and is affiliated to Maharshi Dayanand
University, Rohtak.

The Institute has strong Industry- Institute Interaction base. During the year 2006-
07, 54 organizations visited the Institute for placement/ training of students.
1.1 The Department of Computer Engineering, besides conducting
B.Tech. courses in Computer Engineering, Information Technology and MCA

is offering from the year 2002-03, M.Tech. programme in Computer
Engineering. Four batches of M.Tech. students have already completed their

The Computer Centre is well equipped with more than 606 computers and is
having state of art equipment. The department is actively engaged in research
work in broad area of Fuzzy Expert Systems, Internet Technology, Natural
Language Processing and Network Technology.

1.2 The Department of Mechanical Engineering, besides conducting


B.Tech. course in Mech. Engineering with specialization in Machine Tool
Operation & Maintenance, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and Fabrication,
Welding and Sheet Metal Technology, is also offering M.Tech. programme in
Mech. Engg. with specialization in Manufacturing Technology and

Automation from the academic year 2003-04. The department is having well
equipped labs/ workshops.

* (a) Against sponsored seats, first preference would be given to candidates


working in Directorate of Technical Education, Haryana/ Universities/ State Govt.
and Govt. Aided Engineering Colleges.
* (b) If, any seat in any of the branch against sponsored category still remains
vacant after making admissions of the candidates as mentioned at (a) above, then
the candidates duly sponsored and eligible, working in self-financing Engineering
Colleges recognized by affiliating University in the Faculty of Engineering &
Technology or working Engineer/ Scientist employed in a department/ industry/
laboratory in the proximity of Institute would be considered.
* (c ) In case any seat against sponsored category still remains vacant after
admission as proposed under (a) and (b) above, the same would be filled in on
merit basis.

The normal duration of the course for regular full time candidates shall be 2 years.
Teaching in each academic year is divided into two semesters.
Proposal for conduct of M.Tech. courses in the above disciplines on Part-time
basis is under process and as soon as approval from competent authority is
received, the same would be notified separately.

minimum 55% marks in qualifying degree exam.
Or CGPA of 6.25 on 10 point scale and valid
GATE Score . However, in the case of SC/ST
candidates, 50% marks in qualifying exam. Or
CGPA of 5.75 on 10 point scale with valid GATE
Score is required.
b) Second preference will be given to B.Tech./BE
in Electrical/Electronics Engg. with minimum
percentage of marks in qualifying degree exam. As
mentioned at (a) above, without GATE Score.

For sponsored candidates, the minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying degree
examination is 55% or CGPA of 6.25 on 10 point scale (50% marks or CGPA of 5.75 on
10 point scale in case of SC/ST candidates).
The sponsored candidates should possess minimum 2 years experience in the
organization/ organization(s) of the types specified on the last date of receipt of
application out of which at least one year continuous experience should be as regular
employee in the sponsoring organization.

3.2 Eligibility for admission to Ph.D Courses
Discipline Qualifying examination for admission to Ph.D
Computer Engg. M.Tech. in Computer Engg./ Computer Science/ information
Technology with minimum 70% marks in qualifying exam. Or
7.75 CGPA on 10 point scale.
Mechanical Engg. M.Tech. in Mechanical/ Production Engg. with minimum 70%
marks in qualifying exam. Or 7.75 CGPA on 10 point scale.
Electrical Engg./ M.Tech. in Electrical/ Electronics Engg./ Electronics &
Electronics Engg. Communication with minimum 70% marks in qualifying exam.
Or 7.75 CGPA on 10 point scale.
The candidates so selected for admission to Ph.D Programme will have to apply
subsequently to M.D. University, Rohtak for registration.

The normal duration for Ph.D Programme is 3 years which can be extended depending
upon the progress of the research work.

4.PROCEDURE AND ADMISSION RULES- IMPORTANT INFORMATION

4.1 A merit list of the eligible candidates will be drawn on the basis of their valid
GATE score only (i.e. 100% weightage to GATE score and no weightage to
qualifying degree marks) as the seats will first be filled by GATE qualified
candidates and the remaining vacant seats, if any, shall be offered to other
candidates on the basis of their marks or CGPA in the qualifying examination as
mentioned in para 3 i.e. Eligibility for Admission.
4.2 Candidates who are finally selected for admission will be required to deposit two
attested photocopies of all the required certificates, alongwith Migration
Certificate (in original)
4.3 The sponsored selected candidates will be allowed to join the classes only on
production of Relieving Certificate from the sponsoring Institute/ Organization
where he/ she is employed in the proforma attached with the Application Form
and on the proper letter head of the Company/ Institute bearing reference No. and
Date of issue.

4.4 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED LATE DUE TO POSTAL/ COURIER
DELAYS OR OTHERWISE OR THOSE WHICH DO NOT FURNISH
COMPLETE PARTICULARS OR DO NOT ENCLOSE ALL THE
DOCUMENTS INDICATED IN THE APPLICATION FORM WILL NOT
BE CONSIDERED.
4.5 The selected candidates will have to submit a “ No Objection/ Migration
Certificate” within one month of the admission from the University from which
qualifying examination was cleared failing which the admission is liable to
automatic cancellation.
4.6 The decision of the Chairman, Admission Committee, in all matters relating to
admission shall be final.

5. SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION

Candidates seeking admission should submit application complete in all respects


on the prescribed form in their own handwriting and must also enclose attested copies of
the following:

(i) University certificate showing the detailed marks in the qualifying


examination on the basis of which admission is being sought.
(ii) Valid GATE Score Certificate.
(iii) Character Certificate from the Head of Institution last attended.
(iv) Matriculation/ Hr. Secondary Examination Certificate as a proof of age.
(v) Valid Certificate of SC/ST from the Competent Authority, in case admission is
sought against SC/ ST category.
(vi) Medical Fitness Certificate from a Gazetted Medical Officer.
(vii) Sponsorship Certificate/ Additional Certificate of sponsorship/ No Objection
Certificate on format attached herewith in respect of candidates seeking
admission against sponsored seats.

6. COUNSELLING AND ADMISSION

6.1 Only those candidates who present themselves personally on the specified date
and time alongwith the originals of all the documents will be considered for
admission. Four Passport size photographs of 5 cm x 7cm will also be required at
the time of admission.
6.2 The candidates admitted to M.Tech. Programme will be required to deposit total
annual tuition fee of Rs. 30,000/- + other charges approximately Rs. 5000/-
(which includes University Fee and refundable security etc.) on the spot at the
time of admission.
6.3 The candidates admitted to Ph.D Programme will be required to deposit total
annual tuition fee of Rs. 30,000/- + other charges approximately Rs. 5000/-(which
includes University Fee and refundable security etc.) on the spot at the time of
admission.
6.4 Before accepting the admission, the candidate must also ensure that he/ she
fulfills the minimum eligibility conditions as laid down herein and by the
affiliating University for admission to respective course.

7. SCHOLARSHIP FOR M.TECH. GATE QUALIFIED (AICTE


SCHEME) AND NON-GATE QUALIFIED CANDIDATES
(INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME)
7.1 Scholarship of Rs. 5000/- each may be awarded to the students who have
qualified the GATE and are pursuing a regular full time course of study of ME/
M.Tech. as sanctioned by Govt. of India from time to time. However, a GATE
qualified student does not automatically become eligible to receive a Scholarship.
Scholarship to a GATE qualified student will depend on availability of funds from
All India Council for Technical Education. When the number of scholarships is
less than the number of admitted GATE qualified students, the distribution of
scholarships shall be on merit.
7.2 The Institute decided to introduce eight teaching assistanceship ( i.e. five for
general category candidates and 3 for SC/ ST candidates) in each M.Tech. course

@ Rs. 5000/-p.m. in respect of non GATE candidates to promote the policy of
“Earn while you learn”,if any of admitted non-GATE candidate is willing to take
teaching assignment in the Institute and the teaching load is available in the
respective department for distribution to such non-GATE M.Tech candidates.
The teaching assistance-ship may be awarded on merit of the qualifying
examination to those students who have 65% or more marks in the qualifying
examination. If sufficient number of GATE scorers are available in any of the
above M.Tech. course, then the teaching assistance-ship meant for that course
may be allowed to be granted to the students admitted in other discipline of
M.Tech. within the overall ceiling of 24 teaching assistance ship i.e. 15 for
general category candidates and 9 for SC/ ST candidates. Those M.Tech. students
who are given teaching assistance ship would be assigned teaching work of 6-8
hours per week.

8. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCESHIP TO Ph.D CANDIDATES


8.1 A scheme exists for the award of Teaching-cum-Research assistanceship for
providing financial assistance to the students seeking admission to Ph.D
Programme. In terms of this scheme, full time Ph.D candidates with M.Tech. or
equivalent qualification are considered. The candidates who are admitted to Ph.D
programme would be paid teaching assistanceship of Rs. 18,000/- per month with
a provision of maintenance grant of Rs. 10,000/- per student per year to meet
miscellaneous expenditure on conduct of research activities. The students
admitted to above Ph.D programmes would be taking teaching load of minimum
10 hours per week (course work) and rest of the time would be devoted by them
for research and developmental activities.

8.2The award of Scholarship/ Teaching-cum-Research


Assistanceship will be subject to the following conditions:
(i) It may be obligatory for every postgraduate scholar to undertake 6 to 8 hours (
per week) of work related to teaching and research activities as may be

assigned to him/ her by the Institute. This could include tutorials, laboratory
classes, development and maintenance of laboratories, assistance in research
and development activities undertaken by faculty members, maintenance and
operation of computers and other central facilities assistance in library etc.
(ii) As per existing rules, the students must secure a first class (60%) or equivalent
grade points during the first, second and third semester examination to
become eligible for continuance of scholarship during the second, third and
fourth semester, respectively.
(iii) A student shall be required to give an undertaking to the effect that he/ she
would not leave the course midway to appear in any competitive examination
etc. not related to engineering and technology in order to be eligible to receive
this scholarship.
(iv) During the course of studies, the student shall not receive any emoluments,
salary, stipend etc. from any other source.
(v) The student shall be entitled for leave for a maximum period of 30 days per
year in addition to general holidays but is not entitled to vacations, e.g.
summer, winter, etc.
(vi) For Ph.D Scholars, in addition to 10 hours teaching in every semester, they
will have to submit Progress Report for his Ph.D work. It is necessary for
every Ph.D scholar to perform well, which will be exhibited through
publication of research work and other innovative ideas through research
work. The decision of the Departmental Research Committee in this regard
would be final.
(vii) The Board of Governors/ Director/ Principal of the Institute may impose any
other condition as deemed necessary from time to time.

If the conditions mentioned above are not acceptable to students, he/ she will not be
entitled to scholarships.
