Irving Grousbeck and Sara Rosenthal Description: Nuru International was founded in 2008 as a social venture with the goal to eradicate extreme poverty around the world by helping the rural poor achieve self-sufficiency. The case follows Jake Harriman, founder and executive director, through the multiple human resource and conflict challenges he must face in building his nonprofit organization. Objectives: Analyze the case from the point of view of the protagonist, Jake Harriman. Chapter 24, pp. 669-707 Ruth Wageman et al, Judy Malan, Get the Right People on Your TeamAnd the Wrong Ones Off. 1. Develop your talking points for Jakes performance review with Kevin including his response to defenses that Kevin might set forth. 2. Assuming that Rob was to handle Jons termination meeting, what advance steps could Jake have taken to improve the chances of a better outcome? 3. What should Jake say to Jon and to Rob after the failed termination discussion? In what order? Should Jake call Jons uncle? 4. As Jake, having learned about Merrills announcement and having heard Kims report described at the end of the case, prepare your remarks to the assembled directors and senior officers.
