How to Transfer Large Files

● This is a quick guide on how to send files with a


service called Deposit Files.
● Deposit Files allows you to upload files of up to
300mb for free.
● The files will usually be on the site for 30 days,
after which it will be deleted.
Note on Multiple Files
● Deposit Files allows you to upload one file at a
time.
● If you have multiple files, rather put them into
an archive (also called zipping them).
Step 1: Going to the site.
● Open a Web Browser
● Go to the web
address:
http://www.depositfiles.com/

● You should get a site


that looks similar to
the right
Logging In
You do NOT need to login to the site

●The login is for paying customers and has


additional benefits such as:
–Paying Users can upload large file sizes
–Files of Paying Users remain on the site for longer
Step 2: Uploading Files

Click on the
BROWSE
button
Step 3: Select the File you want to
upload
You will be given a
popup window / file
manager interface to the
files on your computer.

Once you have


browsed to your
file. Click on
Open.
Step 4: Accept the Licence
Agreement
After you have click on
'Open', you will notice that
the filename appears in
input area

Lastly, Click on the


The next step is to tick “Upload Now” button
on the checkbox, where
it says “I accept”
Step 5: Upload in Progress

After you have clicked on “Upload Now”,


that area will convert into a progress meter.

Wait until this is finished. It may take some


depending on the file size.
Step 6: Upload Finish

You will get a message once the upload


has been completed.

IMPORTANT BIT

Along with the message, is a link called


'Download Link', in the format of
something like:

http://depositfiles.com/files/1246315

This is the link you need to send to


people who should get the document.

You do NOT need to attach the


document in the email when you send
them the link

Open link in a browser

User should either click on link,


or copy and paste the link in a
web browser

Here the user will get


information on the file, and
option to use either the free
download or gold download

Gold Download is faster but


requires payment. Not
necessary
Scroll down and click on 'Download'

Click on Download
Another Window Will Open

This window will popup as a


second window

There is a timer where the


user has to wait 60 seconds
before the download.

This is because it is a free


service.
After 60 Seconds

After 60 Seconds, the user will be


presented with a CAPTCHA.

A CAPTCHA requires the user to look


at the picture and enter the code they
see.

This is done to prevent automated


requests for computers.

After they have entered the code,


click on the “Download the file” button
If the code is correct

If the code is correct, the


user will be given the
download window to
download the file.
