HOW DOES A BATTERY PROVIDE ENERGY? What components are necessary for a battery to operate?

An Anode, Electrolyte, and Cathode are needed for a common battery to operate. A chemical reaction happens between these three parts and creates energy. How many Penny/Washer/Cardboard stacks does it take to power an LED For me it took around 8 stacks(or cells) to barely light the LED. However we must take into account that there could have been some variables off that did not produce the required amount of electricity to light it. What is an Acid? A chemical substance that neutralizes alkalis, dissolves some metals, and turns litmus paper red. Normally a corrosive or sour-tasting liquid of this kind. -Lemon juice -Vinegar -Tap water(can be acidic) -Stomach acid What is a Base? a base is a substance that, in aqueous solution, is slippery to the touch, tastes bitter, changes the colour of indicators, reacts with acids to form salts, and promotes certain chemical reactions. -Soap -Calcium hydroxide -House hold cleaners -Disinfectant

HOW DOES THE REACTION IN YOUR BATTERY WORK? What is it used for? To power electric tools and toys, bringing life to dead things How is it properly disposed of? The battery is broken apart in a hammer mill; a machine that hammers the battery into pieces. The broken battery pieces are then placed into a vat, where the lead and heavy materials fall to the bottom and the plastic floats. At this point, the polypropylene pieces are scooped away and the liquids are drawn off, leaving the lead and heavy metals. Each of the materials goes into a different recycling stream.
