Minutes from Health and Wealth Council Meeting on March 22, 2013

Presentation of 13-14 State Budget & State Economics by Senator John Eichelberger -No work has been done to the budget since the Governor announced the state budget in February. It is an increase of 2.4% over last years budget. -Hearings are currently being held with department chairs. -State revenue has been down in the last few months. -Governor is asking for funds for transportation to replace sell of lottery. -Selling of liquor store would go to education funding. -Legislators are looking at rewriting Act 47, pension modification, and health care issues.

Business Meeting Review/Approval of Minutes: -The group reviewed the minutes. Donna made motion to approve and Kristen seconded it.

Correspondence
-Michelle reported that we received a Thank you from Angel Feet Ministries for their grant. Review of Treasurers Report/Update: -Machel reported that we got the money for the flu campaign and it was distributed to Blair County Respiratory Disease Society and our website domain was renewed. -Machel reported that the beginning balance for Health and Welfare Council was $4,632.07 and $138.82 for SHIP and ending balance is for Health and Welfare Council is $4,861.58 and SHIP $138.82 with a total of $5000.40. -Dee made motion to accept the treasurers report and Don seconded it. Committee Reports:

Executive
- Mahlon reported that the committee continues to meet every other month.

Marketing
-Sharon reported that the information about the Angel Feet Ministries and meeting today were submitted to the Altoona Mirror. -Sharon reported that there will be a survey monkey about training needs.

Membership
Michelle reported that there are currently 67 paid members. -The group talked about adding a line on membership application for website so Dee can put a link on the Blair County Health and Welfare Council website (blairhealthandwelfare.org).

Website
-Dee reported that she renewed the domain for the website at the same rate. -Dee reported that she is having trouble linking to some local websites.

Nominating committee
-Judy reported that we still need a marketing person, 3 people for the nominating committee and a Chair Blair County Healthy Community Partnership. -Sharon went over the commitment that is required for the marketing person. She has templates and a contact list that she could pass on.

Healthy Community Partnership: - Donna reported that there is still no plan. -Donna reported that the Healthy Blair County Coalition is reviewing the data from the surveys and will hold a meeting with the results. Some of the issues on the surveys thus far are: economy (jobs, poverty), behaviors (drinking, mental health issues), and health (obesity). -Meetings will be scheduled later. Updates:

Blair County Human Service Office


Cathy reported that their new office starting July 1st will be called the Department of Social Services.

United Way
-Robin reported that they are working on campaign, community building grants, needs assessment, VITA tax program, Prom gowns, Trash to Treasure; Day of Caring, and Week of the Young Child. -Robin reported that now their website is more interactive. County Assistance Office Bob reported that there will be a black out period for the EBT card on Saturday, March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th for a few hours due to switching systems.

Agencies Updates
-Agencies gave quick update of happenings. Adjournment: -Mahlon adjourned the meeting. -The next meeting will be held on Friday, May 24, 2013.
