Minutes from Health and Welfare Council Meeting on November 18, 2011

Present: Dee Martin-Spallone (AASD Family Literacy), Lori Robertson (Mid Penn Legal), Denise Adams (LEARN), Maria Brandt (The Arc Blair Co), Susanna Tomlinson (Family Resource Center), John Grove ( VA Hospital), Jim Berkheimer (Blair CoIndependent Living Program), Mike Hofer (Central Blair Recreation Commission), Linda Passonetti (CIL of SCPA), Cindy Cessna (Blair Co Chamber Foundation), Robin Walters (HNA Nurse Family Partnership), Teresa Salome (HNA Nurse Family Partnership), Suzy Knorr (CRI), Kathy Katcher (Easter Seals), Paula Kenepp (Private Care Resources), Machel Drahnak (Blair Co Drug & Alcohol), Michelle Zitsch (CCIS of Blair Co), Jodi Cessna (Central PA Community Foundation), Don Belsey (St Vincent DePaul), Bob Smith (CAO), Dennis Wisor (Blair Senior Services), Dustye Sheffer (Pyramid Healthcare Inc), Terri Grove (Contact Altoona), Kristen Luciano (Skills of Central PA Inc), Mahlon Fiscel (Family Services Inc), Deborah Garritano (retired), and Noelle Frank (Med Express), Call to Order: -Debbie G welcomed the group to the meeting and for bringing their information to share at the meeting. -Debbie G asked the group to introduce themselves. Med Express Presentation: -Noelle Frank from Med Express spoke about Med Express services. They provide non-urgent care, sport physicals, flu shots, and corporate care (drug screenings and physicals). No appointments are necessary. Wait time is minimal. Business Meeting: Review/Approval of Minutes: -Minutes were sent out via email and available at the meeting. -Mahlon made a motion to accept the minutes and Suzanna seconded it. -Michelle reported that no correspondences were received. Treasurers Report: -Machel report that thus far we have received $495 for memberships. $39.96 was received as a refund of fees from Citizens Bank. The current balance is $3626.07 for Health and Welfare Council and $138.82 for SHIP. The grand total is $3,764.89. -Jodi made a motion to accept the treasurers report and Don seconded it. Committee Reports Executive Committee: -Debbie G reported that Health and Welfare is honoring Donna Gority for her 28 years of service by renaming the Leadership Blair County Scholarship to the Donna Gority Leadership Blair County Scholarship. Jodi made a motion for the change and Don seconded it.

Correspondence

Grants: -Dee reported that 8 grants were received. There is $1500 available for grants which is normally $1000, but since no one from Health and Welfare Council was in Leadership Blair County this year that $500 was reallocated to grants. -Dee reported that these 3 programs for $500 each were recommended by the Executive Committee: -Catholic Charties Youth Day Summit Dee made the motion and Don seconded it for approval. -Child Advocates of Blair County- Parents First Aid Dee made the motion and Kristen seconded it for approval. -Central Blair Recreation Commission- Start up swim program at Prospect Pool Dee made the motion and Susanna seconded it for approval. There was 1 abstention. -Dee reported that letters will go out to the unfunded programs. Marketing -Sharon reported that the survey went out about Health and Welfare Council. The results were sent out to the council. The executive committee is looking at the information. -Sharon also reported that there was an article on Health and Welfare Council in the newspaper. - Michelle reported that currently there are 40 paid members. Healthy Community Partnership: -They are still waiting on the state to decide what they want to do with the group. A meeting will be held when the information becomes available. Updates Human Services Office- Debbie G reported that they are trying to work on the Health and Welfare Council website. - Dee is waiting on access so she can make updates. -The group discussed possibly having a link to the Blair County Chamber of Commerce due to the Nonprofit Roundtable. DPW-Bob reported on the LIHEAP program. He said that income limits were lowered, benefits were lowered, and they could run out of funds before the program end date. United Way Suzanna reported that they are at 23% of their campaign goal. She also gave an update on Waly Warmth, Toasty Toddler program and LEARN. Agency Updates: -Debbie had everyone go around and talk about things going on in their agencies. Next meeting: -The next meeting will be held on Friday, February 3rd, 2012 at 8:00 AM at The Arc of Blair County. -Dee made a motion to adjourn and Michelle seconded it.
