How to Load and Unload a Smith & Wesson XVR 460 Revolver

Safety Rules
Before handling any gun, be aware of the basic rules of gun safety. These rules are attributed to Jeff Cooper's Rules of Gun Safety. -Read and explain the Rules of Gun Safety.

Type of Gun and Features

This gun is a Smith & Wesson XVR 460. It has a stainless finish, 8 3/8 barrel, and ported compensator with high visibility fluorescent green sight. This gun features a 5 round capacity cylinder that is compatible with .45 Colt, .454 Casull, and .460 Smith & Wesson Magnum.

Choosing the Cartridges

When choosing your round, the type of cartridges can be in any order. This revolver shoots counterclockwise, so you will want to load the cartridges accordingly. The .45 Colt is 80 cents per round and used more for target practicing. The .454 Casull is $1.30 per round and used for big game hunting including bear and deer. The .460 S&W is $1.90 per round and also used for big game hunting.

Loading
First, ensure the barrel is not pointing toward anyone or yourself. To open the cylinder, press the cylinder release and push the cylinder out. Slide the cartridges into the cylinder. Then firmly push the cylinder back into the closed position making sure it is locked into place. From there, you are ready to shoot either single action or double action.

Unloading
To unload the cartridges press the cylinder release to open the cylinder. Then push the ejector rod to empty the cartridges. Ensure the cylinder and barrel are clear. If you are finished using your weapon, clean it and store it in a safe location.

Discussion
The conceptual framework, or storyboard, helped me in the design process because it allowed me to think about each scene needed in the process of describing the demonstration of loading and unloading a handgun. Even though I am familiar with this process, planning the video helped me analyze and develop the concepts from another perspective. There were minor changes that took place, such as reconsidering the flow, to compensate for viewers who are not familiar with handgun and handgun safety. The major concepts of this video include rules of gun safety, handgun features, loading the cartridges, and unloading the cartridges. This video helps explain and demonstrate these concepts.
