One of the largest raptors in the world the Stellar's Sea Sea Eagle can weigh up to 19 pounds. Found only in northern Asia it is a close relative of the Bald Eagle. This is a monotypic species with very little variation through out its range. The plumage is the same for both sexes while juveniles lack the white on their shoulder and head. It takes about ve years to obtain adult plumage.

The Stellar's sea eagle predominantly on sh. Salmon appears,to be a favorite for the species. During spawning season when many sh die after spawning this eagle will feed on carrion. Also birds further inland may take more small mammals. Hunting usually takes place from a perch, either a tree or a cliff. Although a solitary species hundreds of individuals gather near prime shing spots.

With a small and declining breeding population the Stellar's sea eagle is listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN. Habitat destruction is the major threat to the species.
