An earthquake is caused by an excess amount of stress in between two fault lines. When the stress is released, it results in large shakes and tremors underground. These shakes are called earthquakes and cause very much damage.
Results of Damage
Earthquakes result in many in stances of damage including but not limited to: Many casualties Building damage Spilt coffee Spilt bodies
Fatalities
Dead from earthquakes per year: 63,000 Injured from earthquake: approx. 4 million Yearly cost from earthquakes: 351million
( In 1976 an earthquake in Tangshan, China killed close to 655,000, which is why the death rate was so high that year. )
Solutions
Levitating foundations Shock absorbers Carbon fibers Biomaterials Cardboard tube The problem with these ideas
Inventive ideas
Stabilize earthquakes New idea Cost-effective Lets try not to get anyone killed, Griffin
First solution
Levitating gimbal: interesting, easy, but impractical (impossible because gravity hates us)
Second solution
Our second idea was a good one, but it was too expensive and unrealistic in the event of an actual earthquake.
Our next solution takes thequake. It uses magnets to levitate the building. We figured that it wouldnt allow the energy waves produced by the quake to reach the building. We had to take such drastic measures, given thegravity of the situation.
Conclusion
Useful and simple Looks pretty schmexy (come on, its a levitating building, it doesnt get any better)
