Romeo and Juliet Verbal/Visual Final Project

Love
121 This bud of love, by summer's ripening breath, May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet. (Romeo and Juliet, 2.2) This quote is said by Romeo after the ball. He is talking about how his love for Juliet will only grow until the next time they see each other. I chose this quote because this main idea of it runs throughout the entire play, showing how much love Juliet and Romeo have for each other. I chose love as one of the five main themes because throughout the play love is one of the main themes that always seems to stand out because it is the main emotion felt between the two main characters.

Hate
"These violent delights have violent ends 10 And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume." (Romeo and Juliet, 2.3)

I chose this quote because I think it is a good display of the feelings felt between the two families, and the merging or the two when Romeo and Juliet get married. I chose this theme because the hate between the families creates the main conflict all throughout the play.

Family
"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet" (Romeo and Juliet, 2.2) I think this quote suits the theme of family, because in it, Romeo is talking about how their names dont matter, it doesnt matter that they are from feuding families if they are in love. I picked family as a main theme because everything that goes on in the play is based around the two feuding families, and if it we 'rent for the families there would be not story line.

Secrecy
100 Is your man secret? Did you ne'er hear say, Two may keep counsel, putting one away (Romeo and Juliet 2.4) I chose this quote because it shows how Romeo and Juliet were having to keep their feelings for each other hidden from their families because if they found out they would be outcast and probably cause a huge debacle. I think that this is one of the main themes because everything with the two main characters is kept a secret for almost everyone.

Death
95 Is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks, And death's pale flag is not advanced there. (Romeo and Juliet 5.3) I like this quote, because in it, Romeo is looking down on Juliets face after she killed herself and is still seeing the face he used to know, not the pale, dead face that he will have to later learn. I chose it because it shows the effect of Juliets death on Romeo, and why he then kills himself. Death is one of my main themes because the play contains many deaths as a result of the families feuding.
