SECURE WIRELESS INFRASTRUCTURE

The XYZ University implemented the secure wireless network infrastructure. Secure Wireless use 802.11i technology, commonly known as WPA2. WPA2 along with 802.1x relies on the wireless clients ability to authenticate onto a network with a username and password and then encrypts the data with the Advance Encryption Standard (AES). UITS enabled WPA2 wireless security in September 2013 and has included WPA2 security on all access points installed since then. The IT currently provides two main wireless networks, Wireless and Guest. The wireless network encrypts all wireless transmission using WPA2 technology. The wireless network provides Internet access for University guests without any authentication and encryption. Wireless is the recommended means of accessing the wireless network.

University Secure Wireless Network

It offers the best data security, Wireless is the preferred wireless network for all faculty, staff and students. Traffic sends and received from the wireless device on this network is encrypted using WPA2-Enterpirse technology. Since the Wireless secure wireless network supports 802.1x, web based (browser-based) authentication is not required. Users will be prompted for the Active Directory ID and password via a pop-up window, when authentication is necessary.

University-Guest Wireless Network

The Guest wireless network is intended to provide access to UAE University guests only, and not have any wireless security (WPA2) on their devices.
