East K-7 PTO Meeting Minutes Date: Monday, 1/13/14 Time: 7:00pm Location: East Cafeteria

Old Business: o Santas Secret Shop Event (12/10-12) Never. Again. Or more optimistically, not on my term will I allow this to happen at our school in the sense that it is contracted out by a national company that I am not a fan of. Apologies AND extreme amounts of gratitude to the staff and parents who not only put up with that week but gave their class time and personal time to make it happen. We did make many happier than most realizebut we also made some very, very upset. New Business: o Principals Report: o Treasurers Report: o Box Tops/Labels: o X-Men: A meeting with John Vega was on Wednesday, January 8th to determine his schedule of events/suggestions for the remainder of the year. o Amazing suggestions! Strongly encourage all men to get on board with the XMen for executing these ideas, if not on board with PTO as we ALL will benefit from what is planned! Stressing manhood, leaving a positive legacy, positive parenting. Baby Steps (1,2,3): March- Health & Wellness Event (? Monday 3/3). List of contactsneed someone to follow up with in person contacts PLEASE!!! We won mini-mags (200). Hoping for a healthy food vendor cheap or free as the budget is not allowing this. Short (15min) sessions to explain the 9/14 program, engage interest in parenting workshops) Hoping for a 7 station Olympic theme event o Contacts to hopefully host a station: School Nurses (Jane, Lisa, Gloria) Curves/Local Gym (PF?) Meeting Minutes

June end with a campout. Find location, work out logistics. September would start full use of program similar to WOPS WatchDogs. Meeting with creator Kevin Westrate is set for 1/22. Soundsamazing! High praise from WOPS district on this- parents AND staff. Basically, WatchDogs for that district is having men commit to a few hours of helping in school where most have to be paid to do so (recess, lunch room, books and games) in conjunction with the ongoing workshops *6-8 week rotations) to boost positive parenting, manhood, and lasting legacy.

Staff Representatives: PTO Incentives: See January PTO Pop-In, or ask to see the full log but we are at 515 volunteer hours between September and December of 2013. Tidbit? Thats equal to $3,811.00 on minimum wage rate. Anyone that was concerned about the out of pocket expense to the PTO incentives and/or freebies of Santa Bucks (which were $150.00 at NO cost and we tallied in at $148.50!), and popcorn Friday coupons (equal to 25 cents when only 7 children are receiving this incentive at so far $4.50 or more realistically zero since we end up with anywhere from 1 to over a dozen bags plus a bowl left in the staff lounge of free overpopped popcorn each time!), and the not yet claimed but asked for 4 children with Spring Carnival tickets equal to $6.00 total) thats NOTHING compared to the turnout of volunteer hours logged in three months. Something is working right! o Popcorn Fridays: Pre-pay option, all 4 HPS K-7s on board. Form sent home, $2.00 for the rest of the year. That is a discount of 25 cents. Will still accept 25cents. Due Monday 1/13. o So far? About $10. Have not finished the final count but pre-pay isnt looking like a favored option for East as it is for the other schools. Upcoming Events: o Parent Suggested Events: PTO Luncheon/Volunteer Appreciation by PTO Moms Appreciation (Mothers Day) Garden Club (After School) Movie Night XMen Campout (End of Year) o Contest Winner: PTOToday.com awarded our school 200 copies of their Health & Wellness magazine with possible samples to be distributed during a Health Event between 2/19 and 3/31. Plus! PTOToday.com sent a box of brand new games. o January: 13 (Monday): PTO/Family Connections Meeting, 7pm, Cafeteria 17 (Friday): Popcorn Friday, 25 cents, 8-10am 24 (Monday): No School, PSD o February: 7 (Friday): Popcorn Friday, 25 cents, 8-10am 10 (Monday): PTO/Family Connections Meeting, 7pm, Cafeteria 13 (Thursday): Valentines Day Sock Hop, Aux Gym, 5-7pm?
