The German Democratic Republic forges the Berlin Wall in an effort to divide East and West Berlin and continue to fortify the boundary between East and West Germany with fencing, barbed wire, guard towers, and dogs.

The Quadripartite Agreement was signed in Berlin by the 4 major powers of the time (France, United Kingdom, United States, and Soviet Russia) which granted westerners freedom of movement.

U.S. President, Ronald Reagan, speaks in front of the Brandenburg Gate urging the Soviet Leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, to tear down this wall.

The Berlin Wall falls and is left antiquated. The communist government of East Germany allows its citizens to emigrate to West Germany.
