IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER IN DIVERGENT SOCIETIES

Technology transfer is a process by which existing technology is transferred or transformed to fulfill the users needs. Technology transfer is the external acquisition of technology, rather than the more common internal development of technology through R&D. In the broadest sense, technology transfer is a process of communication that results in putting research findings or new information into practice. Research is implemented as a result of technology transfer activity, whether the process of technology transfer is formally engaged in or not. Implementation of research is more likely to occur, however, when technology transfer is practiced formally and purposefully. The paper is a study on the various processes involved in technology transfer and its effect on the intellectual property rights (IPR). The analytical paper intends to highlight certain major concerns in technology transfer including the difficulty of implementation in light of the UNFCCC and Kyoto protocol, the obstacles created by IP and its in the transfer of climate-related technologies. The study also identifies certain measures related to IP and other innovation and access to knowledge schemes that could also be considered in the context of a post-2012 climate regime with acute focus on the conflicting issues of the developing and developed nations.
