Circle time: playing musical instruments

Who is this for? Rationale

This activity is for the 2-3 year olds I implemented some musical instruments into the environment on thursday and the children went crazy. Instruments are not normally in the environment so i chose to do this activity to work on self restraint with the children.

Acquiring musical knowledge: ! -Distinguishing between different types of music ( fast/slow, loud/ soft)! -begin to identify musical elements and techniques How to prepare Bring selection of music on a cd that ranges from fast to slow, as well as loud and soft.! one maraca and bell instrument for each child

Activity: Circle time: playing musical instruments

How to Teach

Provide each child with a maraca and a bell instrument! Talk to children about how important it is to be able to control our bodies and our energy.! Put on slow/soft song and explain that it is lento (slow) and piano (soft), and have them play one instrument slowly and softly.! Put down instrument! Put on fast/loud song and explain that it is allegro (fast) and fortissimo (loud) have them play one instrument! put down instrument! ask children how they felt when the fast music was playing! ask children how they felt when the slow music was playing! Play music and tell children to play how the music sounds ( if its soft, play slow, etc..)!
