Rattled by BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi s no-holds-barred attac k on the Akhilesh Yadav Government in UP, SP supremo

Mulayam Singh Yadav on Mon day accused Modi of criminal discrimination against the Muslims in Gujarat, whi le the SP government had ensured justice to all the sections. Addressing a huge rally in Gonda district near the Nepal border, both Mulayam and Akhilesh trashed Modi s claims on good governance and development in Gujarat and said they were hardly anything compared to the programmes and developmental agenda implemented by the SP Government. We all know how communal riots took place during the Modi regime and who were the victims . Can Modi reveal how many of the riot victims got compensation , job a nd rehabilitation while his (Akhilesh) government distributed maximum compensati on to the riot victims in Muzaffarnagar. We all regret whatever happened in Muza ffarnagar. It is also true that communal riots took place in Meerut, Aligarh and Moradabad in the past, but the then governments did nothing for the hapless vic tims while the SP Government has tried its utmost to assuage their feelings, th e SP chief told the gathering. Turning to the Mayawati-led BSP, which is the SP s chief political rival in the st ate, Mulayam said the party had lost its political significance. According to hi m, the BSP does not have any policy or ideology other than to squander away pub lic funds. Rather significantly, the SP chief conceded that it was a political b lunder to have sought the BSP support for forming the government in 1993 since i t subsequently paved the way for the pro-Dalit party s rise on the state s politica l landscape. Reacting to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal s list of corrupt politicians, which also inc luded his name, the SP chief without openly naming Kejriwal said he would have s ent him (Kejriwal ) to jail for his baseless allegations but was not interested in dragging him to the court. Earlier, Akhilesh told the gathering that his government had carried out a lot of development and welfare work since coming to power in March 2012 . Rattling off the government s achievements, the CM said it was providing free medicines, fr ee medical tests and free cancer treatment to the people of the state. Besides, he said free electricity was being provided to the farmers for irrigation purpo ses. Monday s public meeting was the fifth organised by the SP in the run-up to t he forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
