D2. Reflecting, Responding, and Analysing: apply the critical analysis process to communicate feelings, ideas, and understandings in response to a variety of art works and art experiences.

Specific Learning Goals:

Name 3 different types of lines in your painting that indicate different emotions.

Kandinsky

Colors and Shapes Kandinsky felt that he could express feelings and music through colors and shapes in his paintings. For example, he thought that yellow had the crisp sound of a brass trumpet and that certain colors placed together could harmonize like chords on a piano. The shapes he was most interested in were the circle, triangle, and the square. He thought the triangle would cause aggressive feelings, the square calm feelings, and the circle spiritual feelings.

Let's Reflect!
What lines or certain shapes work well with the music? Why do you think they work well? How do dark lines create a different feeling that light lines? Curvy vs. straight? What do the colors contribute to the mood?

You will be painting your own musical masterpiece.

! I will play 3 different genres of music ONE song at a time. ! You will paint to the tempo, rhythm, or beat of the music. ! You can add texture to the painting as well (for example: scraping, sponging, swirling, etc). ! You can use different colours, mix colours together or stay monochromatic.
