To configure TCP/IP settings Open Network Connections. Click the connection you want to configure, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection. Do one of the following: o If the connection is a local area connection, on the General ta , under This connection uses the following items, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. o If this is a dial!up, "#N, or inco$ing connection, click the Networking ta . In This connection uses the following items, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. Do one of the following: o If you want I# settings to e assigned auto$atically, click Obtain an IP address automaticall , and then click O!. o If you want to specify an I# address or a DN& ser'er address, do the following: Click "se the following IP address, and in IP address, type the I# address. Click "se the following #N$ ser%er addresses, and in Preferred #N$ ser%er and &lternate #N$ ser%er, type the addresses of the pri$ary and secondary DN& ser'ers. )o configure DN&, *IN&, and I# &ettings, click &d%anced.

)o open Network Connections, click $tart, point to $ettings, click Control Panel, and then dou le!click Network Connections. +ou should use auto$ated I# settings ,D-C#. whene'er possi le, for the following reasons: o D-C# is ena led y default. o If your location changes, you do not ha'e to $odify your I# settings. o /uto$ated I# settings are used for all connections, and they eli$inate the need to configure settings such as DN&, *IN&, and so on.
