Temperature Readings for Main Engine

Marvin D. Rabi Electro Cadet Batch 16

Problems
Encountered

erratic readings for Scavenging air temperature, Piston Cooling Oil temperature, and Jacket cooling water temperature. These readings cause slowdown of main engine.

Corrective Actions
Checking

of resistance bulbs for the components. Encountered brittle wires which have wires exposed and their insulation deteriorating. Also there was a number of PT 100 sensors found to have only 2 terminals connected and the third one was also put to the second terminal.

Exposed Wires and Deteriorating Insulation

Two Wires Connected to Three Terminals

Putting of Insulation for Exposed Wires

Reconnection of Three-Wire Terminals

Result

The jumper or the wires that have been connected together caused the resistance bulb to have a nonlinear way of increase in temperature that caused the erratic readings. Same can be explained to the exposed wires that may have been touching each other during voyages. After the repair the readings have become more stable and accurate than before.

Thank you very much!
