To Kill A Mockingbird Group Assignment(s) Open ended questions: As a group, please respond to these prompts to the best of your

ability. In order for an answer to be deemed successful, it should refer to specific quotes or pages in the text. 1. In the novel so far, weve been introduced to a very interesting cast of characters. Who do you think is the most important so far? Why do you think so? 2. Seeing as TKAM is a coming of age novel, there are a lot of moments that hold sway over Scouts development as a person. What moment so far do you think has had the most drastic impact on her? What evidence can you use to support your answer? 3. Weve discussed Boo Radley a bit so far; however, one thing we havent really touched upon is his actual story. As Ive said in the beginning of this novel, Maycomb is like one very dangerous game of telephone. Once a topic or rumor starts to spread, it quickly gets blown out or proportion. However, as with any rumor, there is usually some truth contained within. Find moments in the chapters weve read so far and try to find all of the descriptions/conversations about Boo Radley. Your goal should be, ideally, to construct a factual profile of this mysterious figure. 4. Although it might not be readily explicit, Atticus has a very distinct form of ethics and justice. This usually comes through his conversations with Scout and Jem. Look over these specific scenes and see if you can pinpoint what Atticuss form of justice looks like. What is interesting or different about it?

Assignment: Your group will be responsible to for one of the seven concepts I introduced on Friday. As you read and finish part 1 of the novel, your groups task will be to explore this concept through close analysis of the text, ultimately settling on a theme that you think the book wants to explore. This means pulling/selecting passages that you find meaningful/important. Furthermore, starting on Thursday, you will present your findings to the class in the form of a lesson; how you choose to illustrate your findings is completely up to your group (you will pretty much have free reign), but it should still be informative - we will be using these ideas on future assessments, after all.
