Snowflakes - Symmetry and Hexagons
‘Snowflakes begin with a grain of dust floating within a cloud. Water
vapor sticks to the dust grain and a crustal of ice held together by
hydragen bonds.
While na two snowflakes may be alike, most all have similar
beginnings, and share properties of symmetry. But many
snowflake exercises in schools fall to show that snowflakes begin
as six-sided hexagons.
As the crystal grows and begins to fall through warmer
feel temperatures an it's way to the ground, crystals are added to the
sides of the hexagonal prism
Snowflake crystals hexagonal prisms are much like a cross-section of a pencil or a beehive, the
have six sides and two ends:

Whatever approach you use to having students
create snowflakes this winter, be sure to emphasize
snowflakes’ six-sided chemistry.
