Assignment 1:
Listen to the speeches of source 1 and answer the following questions for each speech.
1. Why did Churchill gave this speech?
2. What is Churchill trying to achieve and how does he say it?
3. Does Churchill do anything with his voice? Think about pitch and volume.

Assignment 2:
For each of those speeches make a checklist of things that you have to do and say while giving that kind
of speech.
Example: In the first speech you don't want to sound happy or sad. You will need to sound convincing,
you need to give hope.

Assignment 3:
Use the checklists from the previous assignment to create your own speech. First choose one of the
three speeches. Then make your own speech with the help of the checklist for that speech. Pay
attention to what you are going to say and how. Use intonation and try to be convincing. The goal is to
get the message across and be fluent grammar is not that important as long as people can understand
you.

Assignment 4:
For the listeners to the speech use your own checklist to evaluate the speech that your classmate is
giving. Give them the feedback after they are done with their speech.
