American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been declared the sole testing center in the United Arab Emirates for the prestigious Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) and Professional Engineering Exam (PE) administrated by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) in the USA, it was announced today, November 28. "This is very good news and yet more proof of the high esteem in which AUS is held internationally," said Dr. Peter Heath, Chancellor of AUS. "As a testing center, we will be making our facilities available to students of other universities and institutions as well. This is in synch with our mission to become an engaged, productive and effective member of society that serves the community at large." The FE exam can be taken by engineering students in their senior year, while the PE exam is taken after a minimum of four years of practice. Success in the PE exam also grants the applicants the highly honored PE licensure to practice the profession. "The FE exam will not only be used as a tool for continuous improvement for our programs and curriculum but will also benchmark our students to their counterparts in the US," said Dr. Yousef Al-Assaf, Dean of the AUS College of Engineering. "Having AUS as a test site in the UAE for the PE exam will be an important step in creating a culture of engineering licensure in the country and the Gulf region as a whole. These qualifications will not only benefit professionals and the organizations they work for but will also enhance the overall quality and stature of the engineering industry in the country," he added. Senior engineering students from other institutions in the country will also be able to take the FE exam. Practicing engineers can also sit for the FE and PE exams without the need to travel to the US. The AUS College of Engineering will also offer refresher courses to its own students and alumni as well as men and women from around the region interested in sitting for these exams.
