Tocumwal Preschool together with Tocumwal Lions Aged Care Facility Implementation of Kids Interacting with the Elderly

Tocumwal Preschool together with the Tocumwal Lions Aged Care facility has worked collaborative in a partnership to implement the program, Kids Interacting with the Elderly (KITE).

The KITE program is a partnership between 2 organisations to enhance the happiness, humanity, respect for the minds and hearts of young and old through an interrogational partnership.

By introducing the partnerships between Tocumwal Preschool and the Tocumwal Lions Aged Care facility there are clear benefits for both the children and the elderly. Benefits for the elderly include:

Engagement in useful ways Purposeful relationships Meaningful acidity Raise self esteem Develop empathy for others

Personal satisfaction Enjoyment and fun Altruistic Meeting standards

Benefits for the Tocumwal Preschool Children Include: Enjoyment and fun Building relationships Increase awareness for the elderly Develop empathy and feelings of caring Community Service Meaningful activity Meeting Standards

The KITE program will begin on Tuesday, 6th of February 2014. It will alternate each week from a Tuesday to a Thursday session. It is our hope to continue the KITE program for the entirety of the 2014 year. The KITE program will run from 10:30am. Ten children will participate in the KITE program each week, with one educator, and the remainder of the children will stay at preschool. We encourage parent volunteers to come along and participate in this program. If you have any questions about the KITE program please dont hesitate to speak to our educators. If your child is suffering from a cold or any other illness please notify our preschool educators to ensure that the elderly

are not put at risk of contracting any illness. The permission note must be returned before your child is able to attend.
