UNIT: Basketball SKILLS: Defensive Skills in a Game Format (Ball U Man Concept, Shell Defense, Defensive Stance) GRADE

LEVEL: 8th grade

AGENDA: Intro: 3 min. -Greeting/ Rules *Students will compete in either 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 defensive based game based on class size. Teams will be awarded a point for a defensive stop and recovery of the ball from the offense. Such as a blocked shot, steal, or defensive rebound. Teams will rotate out each possession however, if defensive team scores point they remain on defense but still must switch out with fellow teammates to allow all the students to participate. Team with most points after eight minutes wins the game. Focus: 20 min. Total First round of games- 8 min -Team 1 vs. Team 2 -Team 3 vs. Team 4 * Winner from each game will play each other in round 2 *Loser from each game will play each other in round 2 Second Round of games- 8min. -Team ____ vs. Team ____ - Team ____ vs. Team ____ Closing: 2 min. -Announce the winner & discuss what we learned OBJECTIVES/TEKS: Psychomotor: Students will demonstrate how to correctly infiltrate the defensive concepts in a game setting. Cognitive: students will gain knowledge of the importance of playing physical and intelligent defense in a game setting. Affective: Students will have to communicate and practice good sportsmanship throughout the game to successfully perform proper defensive skills. EQUIPMENT: Basketballs: 2 (1 for each game being played) Pennies: 40 (10 for each team)

TEACHING POINTS: Read the situation Stay close to the offensive player Try to guard someone with similar size and ability Keep your hands up Keep your eyes on the man and the ball

Stay in an athletic stance to be able to move quickly
