**Award 0 mark when there is no response(no attempt NA) or response written in


language other than English. A mark of 0 is also awarded for mindless lifting of irrelevant
chunks from other sources including rubrics.
When awarding marks, apply the best fit principle. No script will fit neatly into any one of
the bands. To determine the appropriate mark, identify the band the response belongs to
and refer to the criteria in the band to confirm. Examiners should assess the script
holistically.

Band ( 7 8 marks ):
- Task largely fulfilled
- Ideas largely developed and largely supported with evidence from the text
- Language is largely accurate, mostly varied structures, vocabulary wide enough and
mostly apt
- Interest of reader largely aroused
Band ( 5 - 6 marks):
- Task sufficiently fulfilled
- Ideas sufficiently developed and supported with some evidence from the text
- Language is sufficiently accurate, sufficiently varied structures, vocabulary lacks
precision
- Interest of reader sufficiently aroused
Band ( 3 4 marks ):
- Task partially fulfilled
- Ideas lack development with minimal evidence from the text
- Language is partially accurate, repetitive structures, limited vocabulary
- Interest of reader partially aroused
Band ( 1 2 marks ):
- Task hardly fulfilled
- Hardly any ideas
- Language is inaccurate, distorted structures, inappropriate vocabulary
- Interest of reader hardly aroused
