Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard:

STANDARD 1. PROMOTING CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development knowledge base. They use their understanding of young childrens characteristics and needs, and of multiple interacting influences on childrens development (NAEYC, 2011)

Brief Description of Evidence:

While in my ECED 120during the semester; I learned about the eight stages of development that Erik Erikson describes; from Trust versus Mistrust to the eighth stage which is Ego Integrity versus Despair? I engaged in a self-study of my own life and found that when I went through these stages I learned the many different things that helped me make the best decisions in my life.

Analysis of What I Learned:

The project taught me how important a childs life is and how they become aware of the world around them. Through doing this project it made me to better understand the eight stages of Erikson on what a child goes through in their stages of life. To be able to understand the development and learning a child will achieves through the eight stages that Erikson describes. There can be many ways that children will learn concepts from family members or teachers. These include what they perceive as the correct way to learn as compared to what is and is not the correct way of doing things.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

I promote suitable child development and learning. I do this by creating environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive and challenging for each child. I do this by assisting the child in understanding education concepts that the child may find difficult.
