New Counselor Education Faculty

PATRICK MULLEN

Patrick is a registered mental health counselor intern and a certified school counselor in the state of Florida. He has worked as a school counselor for two years and a community based counselor for three years. Patrick is actively involved in the editorial boards for the Journal of Professional Counseling: Practice, Theory, and Research, Journal of School Counseling, the Counseling and Values journal, and the Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation journal. Patrick has held leadership positions with the American Educational Research Association, Southern Region of the American Counseling Association (ACA), and the Florida Counseling Association. He has served two consecutive terms as a student member on the ACA ethics committee. Patrick received the AARC Doctoral-Level Exemplary Research and Practice Award, the ACA Glen E. Hubele National Graduate Student Award and was recognized as an ACES emerging leader. Patrick has been involved in eight quantitative or qualitative research studies, leading five of them. He has five publications in print and has delivered over 34 presentations at the local, state, regional, and national levels. Patrick will soon be Dr. Mullen, when he defends his dissertation on Feb. 25, 2014!

New Counselor Education Faculty

SYNTIA SANTOS

Syntia is a doctoral candidate in the Counselor Education program at NC State University. She holds a Masters in School Counseling from the SUNY at Buffalo through a Fulbright scholarship. She has worked in the National Pedagogic University Francisco Morazn in Honduras as professor and program coordinator in their School Counseling program. Her passion for teaching, counseling and cultural exchanges has allowed her to seek travel experiences and build friendships around the world. Her major interests are multiculturalism, international counseling, international education and counselor education. Currently, Syntia is working as a teaching assistant in the office of Internationalization and Distance Education Alliance (I+DEA) at NC State University supporting the process of internationalization in the College of Education. She has authored two scholarly articles, one book, and has presented at international, national, state, and regional presentations. She also has coordinated and facilitated study abroad programs for students. Syntia will soon be Dr. Santos when she defends her dissertation in Spring 2014!
