STATE OF TEXAS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

GARNET F. COLEMAN
STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 147

February 24, 2014

To Whom This May Concern: I would like to express my opposition to the potential closing of the United States Postal facility located at 4110 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77004 known to all of us whom have lived in this community as the Southmore Station. This is a historic site of the first sit-in in Houston, TX on March 4, 1960. To have some other type of structure on this location could potentially provide irrefutable harm to the history of African-Americans and justice conscious people of all races. Additionally, this would impose a hardship on my constituents that depend on the services provided at this location. The area is bustling with businesses and residents that utilize its services. And I add that my district office postal box has been at this location for 23 years and my family has occupied a box for more than 50 years. I am in full support of the efforts being made by Congresswomen Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Al Green and the numerous other community leaders in their efforts to save this historic location from being removed from our community and placing a geographic burden on the residents.

Warmest regards,

Garnet F. Coleman State Representative District 147
