September Falcon Letter We would like to welcome parents and students to the 4th grade!

The fourth grade teachers consist of Ms. Baum, Mrs. Kim (Long Term Sub-Mrs. Morales-Coln) and Mrs. Halici. This first week back we have been very busy getting to know one another, organizing our classroom, and setting goals for the upcoming school year. Listed below are the curriculum concepts and topics yours student will be learning this month in school.

Reading Literary text: historical fiction, description of characters, setting, or events, comparison of narrators point of view.

Writing Opinion: organization reasons that support the opinion, evidence from narrative text, conclusion, short composition

Math Place value (to one million): relationships among places in the base ten system Reading & writing numbers to one million: numerals, number names, expanded form Comparison: multi-digit numbers (<,>,=)

Science Basic needs of plants Classification of plants & animals

Engineering design process: models for solutions

Social Studies Maryland and the United States: geographic settlement patterns Upcoming dates to mark on your calendar: Sept. 2....Holiday: Labor Day- No school
