Machines BUs: Design / Development Engineer

Job description
Department: Machines Business Unit. Reporting to: Machines Business Unit Job Band: Competitive salary + benefits. Job summary This position is the result of an expansion of the machines department in Thailand. There is a need for someone to be able to develop ideas in the electronic environment and then develop it into a production drawing. The purpose of the position is to: Participate in the full electronic design of the machines required by the Welding Alloys Group. Design cost and features have to be matched for a competitive design. Areas of responsibility To design, develop and improve equipment used in the Welding Alloys. To design new concept and carry them through to production quality. To bring concept ideas to model for presentation to the team Location: Nongkae (Thailand)

Decision making authority They will have the authority to question design suitability. They will be able to delay machines / parts from being shipped if they are considered: unsuitable / unfinished / not fit for purpose.

Key metrics Concept designs. Meeting deadlines. Liaise with the manufacturing contractors Design within a predefined budget. Design within H&S environment Key competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/ Attitude, Job-related Behaviour) Technical qualification in Electronic Design Engineering. Proven experience on Electronic design. Proven experience on managing projects, on a matrix structure. Proven experience working with PCB software packages Altium. High organisational and problem solving skills. In the habit of working in a busy and complex environment, staying calm under pressure. Outgoing personality, in order to interact with the team, internal and external customers at all levels. Demonstrated general business interest and understanding. Good communication skills. Good understanding of English. Other languages would be an advantage. A good IT literacy is essential: Office, MS, Spread sheets (Programming). Enthusiastic and dynamic character.

Desired competencies Ideally with a good understanding of Mechanical Design.

Desired knowledge of ERP manufacturing systems to be familiar with ETO Projects, WO

management, standard stock control systems.


Practical hands-on approach to working with heavy duty equipment. Main job / role (Customer, People, Finance, Process) Taking active part (if required) in the design and development of new welding machines and parts according to customers needs, being a fully integrated member of the team. Developing new and updating existing drawings. Supporting Design and Development projects Making sure all projects meet deadlines and budgets. Reporting the project design progress to the Machine Business unit Manager (Thailand). Holding meetings regularly to update your team members.. Miscellaneous
