DearUCLAUndergraduateStudentAssociationCouncil, Asmembers,pastandpresent,ofstudentgovernmentsacrosstheStateofCalifornia,wewouldliketo expresstoyouourearnestandsinceresupportoftheprocessyouarecurrentlyundertakingandfirmly conveyoursupportfortheresolutionAResolutiontoDivestfromCompaniesthatViolatePalestinian HumanRightsbeforeyou. ThisresolutionispartofahistoricmomentintheStateofCalifornia,wherestudentsrepresentingdiverse identities,issues,andexperiencesareheedingthecalltoceaseourunethicalcomplicityintheviolationof Palestinianhumanrights.Acrossthestate,studentsjustlikeyouareworkingtoensureourinvestments upholdthemissionoftheUniversityofCalifornia.Welooktovictoriesofmajorityvotesatfiveofour U.C.campusesandtheupholdingofthreedivestmentresolutions,victoriesthatmeremonthsagoseemed imaginable. WestronglybelieveitisourdutyasstudentleaderstoholdtheUniversityaccountableforitsprioritiesand investments.Asstudentswhohavebeenprivilegedtobeelectedtostudentgovernmentpositions,itisour obligationtoadvocateforethicalUniversitypolicyandensurethestudentvoiceisrepresented.

Through thepowerofresolution,thisactionrecognizestheunwaveringimportanceofstudentinputinthe decisionmakingprocessoftheU.C.andensuresourpursuitofeducationisnotattheexpenseofothers fundamentalhumanrights.Passingthisresolutionisanimperativesteptowardsempoweringstudentsto criticallyunderstandwhereourmoneyisgoingandtheglobalimpactofouractions,andexerciseourright tosharedgovernanceintheUniversityofCaliforniasystem. Wecanattestthroughpersonalexperiencethattheseresolutionshavetrulybenefitedourcampuses, creatingmoreinclusivediscussionsthatencouragedialogueamongourmanyconstituents.Wegreatly empathizewiththepressuresyouareexperiencing,butwebelieveitisatthesemomentsthatwedefine ourleadershipandhavefullfaithinthepowerofcollectivestudentaction. Youhaveinheritedalegacyofstudentactivism,strugglestowhichmanyofyouowemuchandwithout wouldlikelynotbeatUCLA,thatwemusthonorthroughourcurrentcommitmenttoaUniversityrooted injusticeanddignity.Throughgenerations,studentsjustlikeyouhavebeenconfrontedwithissuesthat haveoftenbeenlabeledcontroversialandeveninthefaceofpowerfullobbyingandopposition,have foughtforjustice.Weurgeyou,thehonorablecouncil,tovoteinfavorofthisResolution.
