The Honorable Ken Waddell NC House of Representatives 16 W. Jones Street, Room 1311 Raleigh, NC 27601-1096

Dear Representative Waddell: I am writing you today on behalf of Jasmine Thars family and friends. I feel like justice has not been served, and by justice not being served many hearts are still broken. I am a social work intern and I am working with the social workers at Columbus County Department of Social Services. Whether racism played a role or not in Jasmine Thars death, I feel like James Anthony Blackwell needs to serve time. If justice is not served and James Anthony Blackwell doesnt serve time than other citizens may feel like they can use a gun to kill an innocent person and get away with it. Jasmine Thar was an innocent teenager standing in her godmothers yard getting ready for a trip to the beach. By these actions taking place and the events that followed with no justice being served, the system is saying no one is safe in their own yard. I understand that you face many tough decisions with your position, but this is something that desperately needs attention. With your support and commitment I feel that this is something that can heal Jasmine Thars family and friends. Thank you for your support. Sincerely,

Ronica Thompson Social Work Intern/Student Columbus County Department of Social Services/University of North Carolina at Pembroke
