Dazulkipli Asmat, the training firm's senior c onsultant, said that the Wholesale Entrepreneurs Programme is an entrepreneurship training programme designed for entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs who are interested to venture into the import and retail business. "Many entrepreneurs do not know and have difficulties in obtaining information on how to obtain quality products direc tly from the sourc e or supplier at low pric es, and instead went through middlemen to get them," he said. The c ourse gives partic ipants insights on the fundamentals of running a wholesale business as well as tec hniques suc h as dealing with traders and suppliers in the wholesale arena, he said. He said the participants have put a lot of interest in venturing into wholesale and have undergone training for the programme which was fac ilitated by Jalil Shahabudeen from Anzac Consultancy Malaysia and that the trip to China was the main highlight of the course. "We put a lot of foc us on China as a source to do wholesale because China has the largest population with produc tion of hundreds of thousands of different produc ts you can imagine," said Dazulkipli. He said almost every multinational c ompany in the world looks to China as a manufacturing hub for their products and brands, and that these products are being sold in many c ountries around the world everyday. "This is an opportunity that should be exploited by Brunei entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs in expanding their business sc ope in terms of sourc ing produc ts direc tly from suppliers in China," he said. During their five-day stay, the partic ipants visited wholesale plazas such as Plaza Produc ts Interior Decoration and Acc essories, Women's Plaza Curtain and Linen Fabrics, Leather Hand Bags Plaza, Modern Dress Plaza, Silk Fabric s and Elec tronic Plaza, Children's Clothing Plaza, Lights Decoration Plaza and Elec tronic Plaza. Along the way, the participants disc overed suppliers of vehic le ac cessories, building materials (hardware), equipment toys, stationery, furniture, kitchen equipment and furnishings. "These participants were utterly speechless and intrigued to disc over the wide range of products whic h are mostly unavailable in Brunei shops and supermarkets, and that the pric es are definitely lower than what you get in Brunei. Throughout the c ourse, the participants learned that the products purchased direc tly from the supplier are based ac cording to the quantity set by them," he said.

"For many loc al entrepreneurs, this is c ertainly a very useful opportunity to get more produc ts to be brought bac k and sold to consumers in Brunei. "The returns are three to five times the pric e of the produc t, which can be considered 100 to 300 per cent of the profits earned," he added. "It is not surprising to see some SMEs selling China-made products in bulk at the many business centres in Brunei, bec ause they know the returns from the produc ts are very high," he said.
