INTRODUCTION
Introduction of Information Technology led to formation of modern
concept of Information Society.

There is no doubt that current era is all about information and


technology.

But the advancement is accompanied to some new and serious threat


to society.

CYBER CRIME: A NEW WAY TO COMMIT OLD CRIME.


HISTORY AND CURRENT SITUATION

Atkins, the criminal quality of an act cannot be discovered by


reference to any standard but one: is the act prohibited with penal

consequences.

1960: introduction of INTERNET to the world. Though offers great benefit to society, also present opportunities for
crime using new and highly sophisticated technology tools.

Some human minds of criminal nature use internet as a tool of crime


which is now known as cyber crime committed in cyber space.

CONT.
Cyber crime mainly consists of unauthorized access to Data and data
alteration, data destruction, theft of funds or intellectual property. Due to these online criminal activities cyberspace is most unsafe place to do business.

Cyber space: first used by William Gibson, in his book, Necromancer,


written in 1984.

Cyberspace can be defined as a virtual world of computers where


internet is involved, where individuals can interact, conduct business, do transactions, develop graphics.

CONT.
In 2011, at least 2.3 billion people had access to the internet. Which is
equivalent to more than one third of the worlds total population.

Developed countries 24%. Developing countries 70%. (of the total number of INTERNET users). The impact of cybercrime is hard to identify.
