Recently, after sleeping in, she needed to get to the station in a hurry and decided to take short cuts through the paddocks. Wendy can run at 10 km/h and walk at 5 km/h. If she has only 18 minutes before the train leaves, should she: I. Walk (arriving on time and flustered)? II. Run (Because she will be late otherwise)? III. Walk part of the way and run the rest? IV. Change her plans (as she just cant make it)? Explain your answer in sentences.

Wendy can walk= 5 km/h Wendy can run= 5 x 2 = 10 km/h Only has 18 minutes 18 minutes= (18/60) = 0.3 hour 18 minutes= (18 x 60) = 1,080 seconds Formula for Speed= Dis tan ce
Time

Formula for Time= Dis tan ce

Speed

Formula for Distance= Speed x time Total distance= 500+600+1200+350 = 2560 km Total time= 18 minutes Speed= 2560 = 14.2 km/h Distance= 14.2 x 18 = 256.6 km Time= 256.6 = 14.2 minutes (If running) Walking= 14.2 x 2 = 28.4 minutes So she will took 28.4 minutes if she walk to the station and she gonna be late. She will took 14.2 minutes is she run to the station and she will come earlier.
