Minimum System Requirements

Installation and Uninstallation

Before you install or uninstall PaperPort 12 e8it %rom any open applications so that only 7in$o"s is running. 2here shoul$ (e no applications liste$ in the tas+ (ar other than 7in$o"s E8plorer. Installing PaperPort 12 2he installation program provi$es easy step-(y-step instructions. Dollo" the gui$ance on each screen to install the so%t"are. !nstallation an$ un-installation re5uire Administrator rig ts. PaperPort installation comprises three elements that are installe$ in a single process&

E P'D Vie"er Plus program E PaperPort !mage Printer. P'D Vie"er Plus "ill not install i% the top-line Nuance pro$uct P'D Converter Pro%essional is $etecte$ on the computer -version > or a(ove/ (ecause it provi$es all the %unctionality o% P'D Vie"er Plus an$ much more a$$itionally. 2o install PaperPort launch the 9utorun e8ecuta(le select an installation language i% o%%ere$ accept or change the program location. 2he program location must (e a local folder on your computer. !% P'D Vie"er Plus is to (e installe$ you have t"o chec+mar+s&
Set Nuance P!" as your default #ie$er for %indo$s and Internet E&plorer 2his sets P'D Vie"er Plus as your system $e%ault P'D vie"er. P'D %iles on the PaperPort $es+top are (y $e%ault opene$ in a Nuance P'D pro$uct. !% you select this option P'D %iles that are $ou(leclic+e$ any"here on your system "ill open in P'D Vie"er Plus. Install all Nuance P!" 9utorun then starts the installers o% the so%t"are components. PaperPort installer o%%ers a Complete or a Custom installation. Choose Custom only i% you "ant to a$$ your o"n %ol$ers to the supplie$ PaperPort 'es+top %ol$ers $uring installation. Registering PaperPort 12 9t the en$ o% installation you "ill (e as+e$ to %ill out an electronic %orm to register your copy o% PaperPort 12. !% you $eci$e not to you "ill (e prompte$ again seven $ays later. Registering PaperPort 12 on a computer $it out an Internet connection !% you install PaperPort 12 on a computer "ithout an !nternet connection you shoul$ choose the option BPrint registration %ormB. 2his opens the %orm as an 123# page "ith some items alrea$y %ille$. Please %ill in the remaining items then print it. 0ou can print it to a physical printer an$ sen$ the %orm to Nuance (y %a8 or (y regular email.

Uninstalling PaperPort Dor a %ull uninstallation all the three components o% PaperPort shoul$ (e remove$ one a%ter the other in any or$er. 2he components are& E PaperPort 12 E P'D Vie"er Plus E PaperPort !mage Printer 4emoving only the !mage Printer an$.or the P'D Vie"er "ill cause PaperPort to %unction incorrectly.

2o uninstall PaperPort %rom your computer& 1. Select 9$$ or 4emove Programs %rom the Control Panel. 2. Select Nuance PaperPort 12. 3. Clic+ 4emove to uninstall the program. F. 4epeat this %or the remaining 2 components. >. 9 computer re-start might (e nee$e$ to complete the removal. "ailed uninstallation Shoul$ the uninstallation o% PaperPort 12 or P'D Vie"er Plus %ail %or any reason you can clean up your system %rom all re%erences to these pro$ucts (y using our 4emover.e8e application. 2his application can (e %oun$ on the PaperPort pro$uct C'-4A3 in the %ol$er PaperPortG,tility -%or PaperPort 12/ or in the P'DVie"erG,tility %ol$er -%or P'D Vie"er Plus/. 9%ter running this utility re(oot the machine an$ the component "ill (e uninstalle$. Scanner Support
Install your scanner 'efore you install PaperPort 12 0our scanner must (e "or+ing in$epen$ently o% the program prior to connecting it to PaperPort 12. Scanners to (e use$ (y PaperPort 12 shoul$ (e installe$ accor$ing to the scanner manu%acturerHs speci%ications. Please consult the $ocumentation that came "ith your scanner %or in%ormation. *%AIN and %IA dri#ers PaperPort 12 supports scanners that are controlle$ (y *%AIN or %IA -7in$o"s !mage 9c5uisition/ scanner $rivers. PaperPort 12 supports any %ully 279!N- or 7!9-compliant scanner or other input $evice that can supply at least a (inary -(lac+-an$-"hite/ image in a supporte$ resolution -200 to =00 $ots per inch/. 2he recommen$e$ ma8imum scan resolution is F00 $pi. Scanner Setup %i+ard PaperPort 12 inclu$es a Scanner Setup 7iCar$ that "ill automatically test an$ optimiCe your scanner %or use "ith PaperPort 12. 0ou can %in$ its shortcut ne8t to that o% PaperPort 12 in the 7in$o"s Start menu. 0ou can also launch it at any time (y choosing the Select (utton on the IScan or @et PhotoJ pane -Scan Settings on the 'es+top ri((on/. 2he Scanner Setup 7iCar$ is launche$ automatically a%ter installation "hen you %irst attempt to scan. 2his ensures that your scanner is optimiCe$ (e%ore you start scanning $ocuments. Using more t an one scanner in PaperPort !% you have more than one scanner installe$ on your computer you may use the Scanner Setup 7iCar$ to use those scanners "ith PaperPort. Using t e ne$ user interface Dor gui$ance on using the ne" ta( an$ ri((on user-inter%ace please see the help topic KElements o% the user inter%aceJ. ,no$n issues $it P!" image editing in P!" -ie$er Plus E$iting an image in P'D %iles in !mage Vie"er has some limitationsL this has (een primarily $esigne$ %or simple image-only P'D %iles. 3ore comple8 P'D %iles may yiel$ une8pecte$ results. !% you $o not +no" the origin o% your P'D %ile an$ you get unsuita(le results "hen e$iting images em(e$$e$ in a P'D it may (e a comple8 P'D "ith image e%%ects alrea$y applie$. !n P'D Vie"er selecting an area o% an image an$ choosing E$it !mage is not "or+ing. !nstea$ you shoul$ select the $ ole image an$ $ou(le-clic+ it to initiate the image e$iting o% the em(e$$e$ image in 5uestion. P'D %iles "ith overlapping o(Mects are not supporte$ %or image e$iting. 7hen a clipping path is applie$ to an image -in or$er to hi$e portions o% the image "hile $isplaying/ a%ter e$iting the clipping path is lost an$ the entire image "ill (e $isplaye$. Dor P'D %iles "ith certain image trans%ormation matri8es the image e$iting operation might result in improperly up$ate$ or rotate$ images in the P'D %ile. Use of Annotations on P!" files !% you inten$ to use annotations on P'D %iles o% any +in$ "e suggest $oing so in the ne" P'D Vie"er Plus. 2he annotations in !mage Vie" an$ !mageVie"er are primarily to a$$ te8t or notes to image %iles. 9nnotations on images -Mpg (mp etc./ "ill (ecome permanently applie$ to the image. Image editing in P!" .on#erter Professional / 7hen using P'D Converter Pro%essional = image e$iting is starte$ in a slightly $i%%erent "ay than in P'D Vie"er. !nstea$ o% the KSelect !mageJ tool you shoul$ use the N2ouch-up A(MectN tool to select the o(Mect. 2hen the shortcut menu o%%ers KE$it imageJ.
