The Wise Man Knows Himself to be a Fool By: Lisa Nehring One of the hardest things in life is coming

to the realization that we do not now as m!ch as we wo!ld li e to now or e"en thin we now# This realization is diffic!lt to acce$t and im$ossible to achie"e% b!t it can be remedied thro!gh an edifying search for new nowledge# & significant lesson ' ha"e learned in my life is that in order to obtain more nowledge% ' m!st $!rs!e a rigoro!s ed!cation in"ol"ing critical thin ing# The ed!cation that will $re$are me to become an obstetrician(gynecologist) a career ' now ' can $!rs!e with the stronger critical thin ing s ills and nowledge% ' $lan to earn and wor toward at the *ni"ersity of *tah Honors +ollege# ,ha es$eare once said% -The fool doth thin he is wise% b!t the wise man nows himself to be a fool#. ' do not claim to now e"erything) howe"er% ' belie"e the delight of ignorance is the $ossibility to fill that "oid with !nderstanding# Filling my own "oid is one as$ect that% thro!gho!t my ed!cation% ' ha"e always held in high regard# Wor ing hard to learn as m!ch as ' can is a $riority in my life d!e to the career goal ' ha"e set for myself# Becoming an Ob(/yn is "ery im$ortant to me beca!se of my hero: my mother# ,he is the $erson in my life that has made me want to attain higher ed!cation in order to hel$ women in my comm!nity thro!gh their str!ggles# My hero has faced many of her own diffic!lties in life% most of which were for the benefit of myself and my siblings# One significant challenge in o!r li"es occ!rred d!ring my freshman year of high school when my father was de$loyed to 'ra0 for a year1long to!r# This was e2tremely diffic!lt for my whole family% b!t es$ecially so for my mom# Her best friend was gone% and she was also forced to fill the shoes of not only a mother b!t a father as well# For an entire year% she str!ggled with the challenges of r!nning her own b!siness% raising fo!r teenagers% and hel$ing the families of other soldiers that were de$loyed with my dad# &ltho!gh she had so m!ch to handle sim!ltaneo!sly% she managed to stay strong thro!gho!t the de$loyment# ,he is one of the strongest women ' now% and ' want to model myself

after her strength# 't is beca!se of her co!rage and consistent moti"ation that ' ha"e become s!ccessf!l in my life so far# ' owe it to her to become the ind of $erson that is ca$able of hel$ing those in my comm!nity# ' now the best $ossible way to achie"e this goal is by $!rs!ing rigoro!s co!rses and f!rthering my critical thin ing s ills# ' belie"e that with an ed!cation centered on these things% which ' can obtained thro!gh the Honors +ollege% ' will be on trac to become an obstetrician(gynecologist#
