504 Research Reflection

My experience in writing the 504 research project was both exciting and frustrating. My group deliberated and chose to write on factors influencing aspiring occupational therapists. We all agreed upon this topic based on interests regarding the topic. The purpose of the study was to establish why the occupational therapy students of Touro University, cohorts 2013 and 2014, chose occupational therapy as a profession. The main conclusions of the study indicated the overall intent of students entering occupational therapy is to help people with disabilities; however the study showed there was a difference between genders motivations compared to the outdated studies that were found. The project was exciting because it was the first research project I had contributed to. Research is very interesting to me but I have not had the opportunity to conduct a research study prior to this study. Additionally, I was excited to investigate why other occupational students, like myself, where interested in the field of Occupational Therapy. This project was also frustrating at times due to the number of individuals working in the group. Some of the group members did not agree on certain aspects of the study and were harder to work with than others. This was one of the first group projects that our cohort was assigned and many of the group members had different ways of approaching the assignment. Overall, the group was able to come to an agreement and the paper was a success.
