Dear Centers for Disease Control, ! We have done many small assignments to understand what and how the ve second rule is suppose to work. We have learned about some experiments done to test the validity of the ve second rule. ! One was done by MythBusters on this idea. They realized early on that just dropping food on the oor would not work. The problem was the fact there was too many variables. So they decided to test a dry and damp food on equally dirty oor tiles. To do this they took a swab from the food before it was dropped. Then they dropped it and took another swab. They tested each one a few times with the time more or less time than ve seconds. They tested both at the times of two seconds, ve seconds, and six seconds. They put the swabs in marked petri dishes with agar inside. They incubated the dishes at 98.6F or body temperature for forty-eight hours and compared the growth. ! After the time they collected the data, they realized the data said that no matter how long they were exposed they had the same amount of growth. This told us that the ve second rule is entirely false and should not be used by any means.

Sincerely, Dawson Baker
