Fairy Tale Story-Writing Capstone

Your task: Create an original retelling of a famous story. In this unit, we took a look at the following: Fausts Deal with the Devil and retellings Little Snow White and retellings Little Red Cap, or Little Red Riding Hood and retellings Rapunzel and retellings

You also learned about Puss in Boots The Griffin Rumpelstiltskin Sleeping Beauty and The Twelve Dancing Princesses And of course most recently The Heros Journey monomyth Surprisingly, we did not cover Cinderella, but I figure youve got that one covered, too. Weve finally reached the point in this unit where its time for you to crank out one of these retellings. So, choose a story to work with. This is not new news to you, but thats your starting point. Which story appeals to you the most? Which has the most potential for a fresh and modern retelling? You probably already have lots and lots of ideas, but lets start with mapping out the basics, yes? Part 1: 1. Choose a story weve covered in class to create an original retelling. Since the retellings we covered were short stories and screenplays, your retelling can be either one. 2. Then, create a map of your story. Whats the context setting, character, conflict? How does each of these trace back to the story you chose? 3. This map should be visual and a diagram of your story. Its ok not to have all of the parts yet, but you should think through your original story and (sorry to be repetitive) how it will translate to your fresh, modern, and youthful take on it. Think symbolically and (sorry to be clich) outside the box. Have fun.
