Heart Crochet Hot Pad


This heart crochet hot pad is so decorative, you might want to use it as a doily instead! The overall pattern is fairly easy. Just take note of the special crochet stitch abbreviations that are used throughout. For example, "st sh" for starting shell and "d sh" for double shell. In case you don't know how, the instructions for these are located just below the materials list.

Matierals yarn - 2 complimentary colors crochet hook - size G yarn needle (or other large eye needle) Special Stitches shell (sh) = 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc - all in same space double shell (d sh) = 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc - all in same space starting shell (st sh) = Ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc - all in same space

Instructions Heart Row 1 - Ch 5, 3 tr in first ch. Row 2 - Turn, sl st in sp between 1st and 2nd tr, st sh in same sp, sh between 2nd and 3rd tr, sh between 3rd tr and beginning ch-5. (3 shells) Row 3 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, (ch 1, sh in sh) twice. Row 4 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, (sh in ch-1 sp between shells, sh in sh) twice. Row 5 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, (ch 1, sh in sh) 4 times.

Row 6 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, (ch 2, sh in sh) 4 times. Row 7 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, * ch 2, tr in ch-1 sp of next sh, (ch 1 tr in same ch-1 sp) 6 times, ch 2, sh in sh. Repeat from * once. Row 8 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, * ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp, (ch 2, sc in next ch-1 sp) 5 times, 2 ch, sh in sh. Repeat from * once. Row 9 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, * ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp (ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp) 4 times, ch 2 sh in sh. Repeat from * once. Row 10 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, * ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp) 3 times, ch 2 * , d sh in next ch-1 sp of sh. Repeat from * to * once. Sh in sh. Row 11 (right side) - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp) 2 times, ch 2, sh in sh. Row 12 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sh in sh. Row 13 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, ch 2, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sh in sh. Row 14 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, st sh in same sp, sh in sh. Row 14 - Turn, sl st in ch-1 sp of 1st sh, sl st in ch-1 sp of 2nd sh. Fasten off. With right side facing, attach yarn to 1st ch-1 sp of d sh in Row 10, st sh in same space, sk next ch-2 sp, sc in next ch-2 sp, (ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp) 2 times, ch 2, sh in sh. Repeat Rows 12 through 15.

Border Round 1 - Attach yarn to 1st ch of Row 1, sc in same space. Work (ch 3, sc) in ch-3 of each shell all the way around. At the top center of the heart, sc in between the center 2 dc of the d sh of Row 10...

End the round with sl st in beginning sc. Round 2 - Ch 1. 4 sc in each ch-3 space all the way around, ending with sc in starting 1st ch sp. Join and fasten off.
