One: Student Information (Key Element 1.A) Factors: Attendances/Referrals/ISS/OSS Student attendance is an important factor in determining student success. The more a student is out of the class, the more likely he or she will be behind, not complete the make-up work, and fall behind. In this class, twelve students have been present every class, six students have had one absence, eight students have had two absences, and five have had three or more absences. Some student absences are due to ISS and OSS, and oftentimes these are assigned due to referrals teachers must make during class. For this specific class, I have had to write two referrals in the past four weeks. Behavior issues in this class are at a minimum, providing more time for instruction. Two students in this class have been assigned ISS and OSS. Although this is a small number, these students are still missing class time and getting behind in class. Oftentimes, the students do not go to ISS and stay at home; therefore, they do not complete the classwork for that day. There is a direct correlation between attendance and grades in the class. The students who attend class regularly have higher grades than those who do not.

In this chart, I took the five students who had three or more absences and averaged their class percentage. These students had an average of 47.6 percent in the class. Next, I took five random students who had zero to two absences and averaged their grade; these students had a class average of 85.4 percent, proving that attending class regularly has a positive effect on a students individual grade and vice versa. IEPs/504 Plans/BIPs It is my responsibility to ensure the seven students who have these accommodations set in place are receiving them so that they have the same educational opportunities as every other student in the

classroom. Doing this requires more time and effort on my part; however, the time and effort are worth watching those students succeed and grow in my classroom. Socioeconomic Background Socioeconomic background is definitely a factor, which affects the classroom. In this class, eighteen of the thirty-one students receive free or reduced lunches. Due to this, I have to consider what materials these students will be able to purchase on their own and what resources (such as computer, internet, etc.) these students have access to at home. In order to curb student embarrassment and or lack of student progress, I offer these materials to the whole class. If I see a student does not have a binder or paper, I simply offer the material to the student. This helps student progress.

The socioeconomic background of students also affects the type of homework I am able to assign to the class. I cannot assume every student has a computer and access to the Internet at home. Therefore, I have to limit those types of assignments. If I were to ignore this student factor, those students who do not have those resources would not be offered the same opportunities of success in my classroom as everyone else. ELA HSAP Scores I took these scores into consideration because this gives me a basic understanding of the level each of my students are at in terms of English/Language Arts. It is important to look at these scores to determine who I am going to need to provide additional support for both under basic and advanced students. In order to keep all students engaged, it is important to strive to accommodate to every students learning needs. With this data kept in mind, I understand that the majority of my students are at a basic or proficient level and are able to keep up with the content in the class. Those students who are below or above the basic or proficient level need appropriate accommodations. Extracurricular Activities/ Jobs Due to the fact that twenty-six of the thirty-one students in this class have other obligations and responsibilities after school hours, it is important to be realistic in the type and amount of homework assigned to them. If they are assigned homework and do not have time or energy to complete it, they are essentially not learning the information. In response, keeping the students best interest in mind, which is to increase their knowledge of content in my class, I keep homework to a minimum to ensure my students are learning the required content knowledge they will eventually be assessed on.
