Becoming Naomi Leon, Chapter 12 Project: Setting Postcard

In this chapter of Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan, Naomi and her family arrive in Oaxaca, Mexico. There are many vivid descriptions of what Naomi sees as she arrives in the city. You are going to create a postcard depicting what Oaxaca looks like through Naomi's eyes following these guidelines: 1. Re-read chapter 12 to yourself and identify a description of Oaxaca that you would like to use for your postcard. Mark it with a post-it note. 2. Close your eyes and try to visualize what the setting looks like based on Naomi's description. 3. Create your postcard using the "Postcard How-to's" below.

Postcard How-to's On the lined side: In the upper right corner, create a Mexican postage stamp On the right side, address the postcard to a friend or family member of Naomi. Include the name, street address, city, state, zip code, and country (you may make this up, as long as it makes sense). Imagine that you are Naomi visiting Oaxaca for the first time and you are writing to your friend or relative. Describe the setting in detail based on

Naomi's description and your visualization.

On the plain side: Create a detailed drawing of the setting based on Naomi's description and your visualization. Use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to add detail!
